MS-13 Shocker: Kingpin’s Release Proves Biden Border “Deception,” Homan Alleges
Border Czar Tom Homan unleashed a scathing critique of the former Biden administration, alleging they “lied to the American people” about the proper vetting of illegal immigrants. Homan’s fiery remarks on “America Reports” came hot on the heels of a significant Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest: Melvin Alejandro Varela Perez, an alleged MS-13 kingpin and one of El Salvador’s “top 100 most wanted” criminals, apprehended in Omaha, Nebraska, on Thursday.
Perez, wanted in his home country for the aggravated homicide of five victims, terrorist organization affiliation, attempted aggravated homicide, and deprivation of liberty, was shockingly paroled into the U.S. in 2023 after illegally crossing the border. This, Homan asserts, is irrefutable proof that the previous administration’s vetting procedures were dangerously flawed.

“This is just one example about what I’ve been saying for the last four years,” Homan declared, his voice laced with indignation. “The Biden administration lied to the American people. When they said that everybody who comes into the country is properly vetted, they weren’t. First of all, we don’t have access to other countries criminal data, but like you said, this was public information. And this has been just easily found.”
Homan painted a grim picture of the Biden administration’s alleged approach to border security. He claimed their primary directive to Border Patrol was to “Process quick, release quick” to avoid crowding and maintain a false narrative of a secure border. This alleged “incompetence,” he argued, allowed a record number of murderers, rapists, and other heinous criminals to enter and remain in the U.S. illegally, now “roam[ing] through American neighborhoods.”
Adding to the severe accusations, Homan highlighted how ICE’s hands were allegedly tied under former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, with agents reportedly instructed not to arrest illegal immigrants unless they had a “serious criminal conviction” – not merely a warrant or a charge.

“The last administration, they totally screwed it up,” Homan continued, citing a staggering figure of 10.5 million illegal aliens entering the U.S. under the Biden presidency, coupled with the lowest number of ICE removals in the agency’s history due to these alleged restrictions.
In stark contrast, the current administration has made significant strides in border enforcement. Since President Donald Trump began his second term, ICE agents have arrested over 273,000 illegal immigrants as of June 30, with a striking 70% of those having criminal convictions or pending charges. Over 239,000 illegal immigrants have also been deported during this period.

Furthermore, border encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border have seen a drastic reduction in the 2025 fiscal year. While May 2024, under the previous administration, saw 240,924 illegal immigrant encounters, May 2025 recorded a dramatic drop to just 29,502 encounters, underscoring a significant shift in border control.
The revelation of an alleged MS-13 kingpin walking free in the heartland serves as a chilling reminder, amplifying the ongoing debate about immigration policies and national security. The recent ambush on an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4, where a local officer was shot, further underscores the dangerous realities faced by law enforcement on the front lines.
