Tom Homan, the current border czar, has explicitly denied for the first time accepting a $50,000 cash payment in exchange for government contracts. The denial comes amid ongoing scrutiny over an alleged FBI sting operation and his previous consulting work with immigration detention facility operators.

Homan made the public denial on Wednesday during a town hall event with NewsNation‘s Bill O’Reilly. Referencing a reported video that allegedly shows him taking cash from undercover FBI agents posing as business executives, Homan stated, “I didn’t take $50,000 from anybody.”

The border czar claimed he is a victim of media “hit pieces” during his time overseeing one of the most aggressive immigration crackdowns in recent history. “There’s got to be 30, 40 hit pieces about me, about how I’m involved with the contract intergovernmental contracts,” Homan said.+

He defended his ethical conduct, saying he took precautions due to his prior consulting background: “Day one, I came back. I recused myself from any discussions, any contracts, or any monetary decisions like that because I used to have a company that did consulting… I took a significant, huge pay cut to come back and serve my nation. And I’m not enriching myself doing this job.”

Homan previously remarked on the incident.

When discussing the allegations with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, he had previously only stated that he had done “nothing criminal” and “nothing illegal.”

Despite the investigation and the allegations, the White House has maintained full support for Homan. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson stated that Homan upholds “the highest ethical standards.”

At the same time, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt affirmed, “The White House and the president stand by Tom Homan 100% because he did absolutely nothing wrong.”
