Homan Sounds Alarm: The Search for 300,000 Missing Migrant Kids
A shocking figure has emerged regarding the fate of unaccompanied migrant children who entered the U.S. under the previous administration, with Border Czar Tom Homan revealing that approximately 300,000 children went missing, and only about 10,000 have been recovered since the current administration took office.
Homan, speaking on “Fox & Friends” on Friday, criticized what he called a lack of media coverage on this critical humanitarian issue.

The alarming statistics come amidst heightened enforcement actions. Just this week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided a marijuana facility in Camarillo, California, where Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott confirmed that eight unaccompanied minors and two other juveniles were encountered. This incident, according to Homan, underscores the ongoing crisis.
“We are looking for over 300,000 missing children. We’ve already found around 10,000, have you heard that anywhere? No, because the media’s simply not covering it,” Homan stated, emphasizing the non-partisan nature that he believes this issue should command. “And look, this should be a non-partisan issue. Arresting public safety threats and national security threats, everyone should be on the same page on that. Rescuing children, I mean, that should be a non-partisan issue.”
Further shedding light on the scope of the problem, an August 2024 report by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found that around 291,000 unaccompanied migrant children received no court notices after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Compounding the issue, ICE reportedly lost track of over 32,000 children who had been released from custody since 2019.

During the previous administration, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the agency tasked with placing children with adult sponsors, reunited only about one-third of unaccompanied children with their parents, according to a New York Times report. The remaining children were reportedly sent to live with relatives or, in some cases, to homes deemed unsuitable, as per an internal inspector general investigation.
The recent ICE raid in Camarillo has ignited strong reactions from Democratic leaders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, who condemned the actions and directed sharp criticism at the current President. “Kids running from tear gas, crying on the phone because their mother was just taken from the fields. Trump calls me ‘Newscum’ — but he’s the real scum,” Newsom posted on X.

The raid also led to clashes between federal agents and protesters at the Glass House Farms, with agents reportedly deploying tear gas and smoke bombs to disperse the crowd. In response, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identification of an individual who appeared to fire a pistol at federal law enforcement during the confrontation.
As the administration intensifies its efforts to locate and recover these vulnerable children, the humanitarian and political ramifications of this unfolding crisis continue to draw national attention and spark fierce debate.
