Small Plane Crashes in Northeast Philadelphia, Prompting Emergency Response

A small plane has crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, prompting a major emergency response and a plea from city officials for the public to avoid the area. The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near Roosevelt Mall on Cottman Avenue. (Video Below)

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker addressed the media at the scene, providing initial details and emphasizing the importance of public safety. “An aircraft went down in the vicinity of Roosevelt Mall on Cottman Avenue,” she confirmed. “This occurred shortly after 6 p.m. this evening.”

The mayor stated that there are no confirmed fatalities at this time, but urged prayers for those affected. She noted that several homes and vehicles were impacted by the crash. “We’re urging you to please stay away from the scene,” Parker pleaded. “This is still an active scene under investigation.”  

President Donald Trump released a statement saying, “So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More innocent souls lost. Our people are totally engaged. First Responders are already being given credit for doing a great job. More to follow. God Bless you all.”

The mayor also asked residents who may come across debris from the crash to avoid touching anything and to contact 911 immediately. She expressed gratitude for the swift response of federal and state partners, as well as first responders from the city’s fire, EMS, and police departments.

Governor Josh Shapiro is reportedly en route to the scene, and various federal officials have been contacted. “Everyone, all hands on deck. That’s where we are right now,” said Mayor Parker.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
