A new job at a sprawling Anheuser-Busch plant turned fatal for one man after his co-worker allegedly stabbed him to death on their very first day.

Jason Guthrie, 38, has been arrested for the murder of 22-year-old Antoine Autry following the Thursday afternoon incident, the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office announced.

The two men, working as contractors at the massive brewery complex, were reportedly not involved in any prior feud. Witnesses at the plant suddenly heard Autry scream that he’d been stabbed before seeing Guthrie flee the scene, according to local reports.

When officers arrived around 4:30 p.m., they found Autry with a fatal stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities, with the help of a K-9 unit, located Guthrie hiding inside one of the plant buildings and took him into custody.

Investigators say Guthrie was on probation at the time of his arrest, having pleaded guilty last year to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for a 2020 stabbing outside a liquor store. The arrest report from that earlier incident noted that Guthrie “suffers schizophrenia and PTSD.”

Guthrie is currently being held at the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility. The investigation into the motive for the fatal attack remains ongoing.
