Brooksville Fire Under Investigation, Reported By Passerby

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL. – On Monday, at 3:46 p.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a reported residential fire in the 26000 block of Hayman Rd.

The call came in by a passerby who reported a fire in a manufactured home.

Investigators say that no occupants were home at the time of the fire. The first engine arrived within 8 minutes and reported a single-story manufactured home on fire with 25% involvement.

There was a shed on the same property 30 feet away from the home that was also on fire.  The crew advanced a hose stream through the front door and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.

Fire crews then quickly extinguished the second fire in the shed.

The fire resulted in heavy damage to the interior of the home and shed.  The origin of both fires on the property is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshall.

The occupant refused Red Cross assistance and will be staying with family according to investigators.

HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ALS medic units, 2 Battalion Chiefs, 1 Water Tender, Fire Corps, for a total of 16 personnel.
