POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Two brothers from Frostproof have been arrested for allegedly stealing and attempting to sell road signs for scrap.
66-year-old Tony Maloy and 76-year-old Marvin Maloy were taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, January 17th, following an investigation into the theft of multiple road signs.
The investigation began on Wednesday, January 15th, when a concerned citizen reported seeing a man in Frostproof knocking over road signs with his black Chevy truck and taking them. Deputies responded to the area but were unable to locate the truck.

Detective Learmonth took over the investigation and contacted a Lakeland scrap yard on Friday, inquiring about the stolen signs. Coincidentally, at that very moment, two men arrived at the scrap yard with fourteen street signs and two stop signs.
The men were identified as Tony and Marvin Maloy.
Marvin admitted to intentionally knocking down the signs, loading them into his truck, and attempting to sell them for scrap. Tony denied knowing that his brother was stealing the signs but admitted to helping him load them.

Both brothers were arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail. They face a series of charges, including:
- Grand theft of a stop sign (2 counts)
- Felony petit theft (14 counts)
- Dealing in stolen property
- Defrauding a second-hand dealer
