It’s the post-Tom Brady era for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and even with all the needs and lack of cap space the Bucs are facing, finding quarterback help is their top priority.

So I asked GM Jason Licht if the Bucs might still pick a QB high in this NFL draft?

“It’s always a possibility. The evaluations aren’t done yet,” Licht said.

Licht isn’t tipping what the Bucs will do at quarterback other than to say right now; Kyle Trask has been working out by himself at the facility. Trask is the only quarterback on the Bucs’ roster.

Licht says it’s still way too early for the Bucs to say who will be their number 1 guy under center. Licht again won’t rule out Tampa Bay going with a signal caller in this draft, and it could come in the first couple of rounds.

“The tape is done, the season is done for these guys but now you’ve got the combine, got the visits, the interviews, the workouts, all these things. There are several quarterbacks we like in this draft, just like most drafts. So it’s definitely a possibility.”

The Bucs scoff at the idea of tanking this season in order to put themselves in a great spot for the number 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft and then get themselves a franchise quarterback. Head Coach Todd Bowles had a lackluster first year, and surely a bad season this year could cost Bowles his job. Licht goes as far as to say the Bucs could actually win the NFC South, even with all the hurdles they have to climb. The NFC South is considered the worst division in the NFL.

“I think they’re all making improvements and they’re all teams to be reckoned with, “said Licht. “We don’t take any of them lightly at all. .I do think we are in a position to compete for this (NFC South title. I’m not making any proclamations by any means, but I think we have a chance to still compete and win the division.

The Bucs have a lot of work to do between now and training camp, and Licht is upbeat despite being in salary cap hell.

“It’ll be an interesting year,” Licht said.

The Bucs coaching staff is conducting in-depth interviews with a number of the top prospects besides evaluating their workouts here at the Combine.
