TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is set to host a major national tournament this weekend, welcoming some of the country’s elite wheelchair athletes to the Tampa Convention Center. The event, which is part of the USA Wheelchair Football League, will feature ten teams vying for victory in a full schedule of games.
Starting bright and early at 8 a.m. on Saturday, the tournament promises a weekend of fierce competition and impressive displays of athleticism. The playoffs are scheduled for Sunday, where the top teams will battle for the championship title.
The Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team, a proud component of Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports, will be joined by other prominent teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers.
The Tampa Bay squad is set to face the Cleveland Browns at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with their second game of the day to be determined by the morning’s results. All games are open to the public, and admission is free, offering a fantastic opportunity for the community to come out and support these incredible athletes.
The Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is a key part of Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports, a program managed by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation. The program’s mission is to empower individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities through sports, promoting health, independence, and personal growth. With over 300 athletes participating annually, Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports continues to be a beacon of inclusivity and athletic opportunity.
The tournament is an official event of Move United, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing sports opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Through their efforts, Move United helps participants build confidence, fitness, and independence through the power of sports.
