Bulls On The Big Stage: USF Track And Field Heads To Historic Penn Relays

The University of South Florida track and field team is heading north this week to compete in the 130th running of the Penn Relays. The three-day event, held April 23-25 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious competitions in the sport, drawing elite talent from the collegiate, professional, and international ranks.

USF is set to headline the weekend with several entries in the Championship of America relay races. These premier events are reserved for the top programs in the country, offering the Bulls a direct look at the nation’s best competition before the postseason begins.

The Bulls’ men’s 4×100 relay team enters the meet with significant momentum.

The quartet of Shomari Pettigrew, Jaleel Croal, Alexavier Monfries, and Nathan Metelus currently leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks 11th in the nation. Their time of 38.97, set earlier this season at the Pepsi Florida Relays, also ties them for fourth in the East Region.

The men’s hurdles group also arrives in Philadelphia with deep rankings. In the 400-meter hurdles, Darian Mills and Joshua Crum hold the second and third spots in the conference, respectively. Mills is tied for 20th in the East Region with a time of 50.89, followed closely by Crum at 50.94. In the 110-meter hurdles, Will Smith leads a USF trio in the conference top seven with a time of 13.95.

On the women’s side, the 4×100 relay team—featuring Doris Quainoo, Peterson, Lynette Scutari, and Evatt—is currently third in the American with a time of 44.60. Gianna Hansen leads the women’s individual efforts in the 100-meter hurdles, ranking fifth in the conference at 13.62, while Quainoo ranks seventh.

The Bulls will also look for strong performances in the 4×400 relays. The men’s team holds the third spot in the conference at 3:05.60, while the women’s team also ranks third in the American with a season-best mark of 3:37.49.
