Byrum Brown threw four touchdown passes in leading a 504-yard attack
TAMPA, Fla. – During his weekly press conference Alex Golesh said all he had to do to snap his Bulls to attention last Sunday, in the aftermath of a 37-point loss at Miami, was to show them film of South Carolina State’s first three games.
While the Bulldogs’ wins over fellow FCS members Wofford and Bethune-Cookman may not have made for riveting film study, they outgained then-No. 10 South Carolina while committing only one turnover. One special teams disaster after another served as the primary culprit in a 38-10 loss.
At any rate, a slow start Saturday afternoon yielded a 63-14 win over the Bulldogs at Raymond James Stadium. It was a case of taking care of business that needed to be taken care of ahead of a bye and the beginning of conference play versus Charlotte at RJS on October 3.
The leaders did what they had to do. Quarterback Byrum Brown threw four touchdown passes, two to Chas Nimrod, and linebacker Mac Harris returned an interception 93 yards about five minutes into the game to open the scoring. Oklahoma transfer running back, Sam Franklin, ran for two scores.
The Bulls, who concluded non-conference play 3-1, outgained the Bulldogs by 174-171 in a first half in which they took a 21-7 lead to the locker room. They opened it up with a 35-point third quarter.
