Bulls Storm South Carolina: USF Grabs Second In Hard-Fought Wofford Invitational

The South Florida men’s golf team matched its best performance of the year this week, securing a second-place finish at the Wofford Invitational. Competing against a field of 13 teams at the Country Club of Spartanburg, the Bulls combined for a 6-under-par 846 to cement their spot near the top of the leaderboard.

While No. 19 USC Aiken took the team title with a 12-under 840, USF’s depth was on full display. Three different Bulls—Jackson Spybey, Roman Solomon, and Matthew Joseph—finished in a tie for fourth place in the 88-player field.

All three golfers ended the tournament at 3-under 210, notably finishing ahead of four golfers currently ranked in the national top 100 by Clippd.

The individual paths to the top five varied for the trio. Spybey set the pace early with back-to-back rounds in the 60s during the first two days. Solomon and Joseph both turned in their best 54-hole totals of the season, with Joseph opening the event with a season-low 2-under 69.

Rounding out the scoring for South Florida, Wilhelm Ryding earned a tie for 14th place at even par, aided by two rounds at or below par. Nino Palmquist finished tied for 26th at 2-over, and Hugo Trommetter took 32nd at 4-over.

On the individual leaderboard, Tyler Jones of Western Carolina claimed the top spot, finishing at 9-under 204 to win by a three-stroke margin.

The Bulls now shift their focus to postseason play. The team is scheduled to compete in the American Conference Championship, which runs from April 27-29 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida.
