What began as a response to a reported burglary in Gainesville on Tuesday evening quickly spiraled into a physical confrontation, resulting in the arrest of two local residents.

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a home in the 6000 block of SW 9th Place on February 17, 2026, following a call about an intruder. However, investigators soon discovered that no break-in had occurred.

According to the sheriff’s office report, the initial confusion stemmed from a domestic disagreement involving a minor living at the residence. When deputies informed the occupants that the situation was a civil matter rather than a criminal one and that no arrests would be made regarding the burglary report, the atmosphere turned hostile.

Police say 44-year-old Major Willfork became visibly agitated by the lack of law enforcement intervention. The situation turned physical when Willfork allegedly lunged at a deputy, grabbed their tactical vest, and attempted to strike the officer with a headbutt. He was quickly subdued and placed under arrest.

Following Willfork’s detainment, 40-year-old Chanda Lorick reportedly demanded that she be arrested as well.

Deputies informed her that she had not broken any laws and was not being taken into custody. As the officers attempted to clear the scene and walk back to their patrol vehicles, Lorick followed them into the yard. Officials state she then picked up a chair and threw it at a deputy, striking them.

Lorick was immediately taken into custody alongside Willfork. Both individuals have been charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that while the deputies were struck during the encounter, they did not sustain serious injuries and remained on duty for the rest of their shift.

Both Willfork and Lorick were transported to the Alachua County Jail for processing following the incident.
