PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – A dispute aboard a public transit bus in Pinellas Park turned physical Sunday morning when a firearm was pulled and discharged, leading to the arrest of the gunman and the subsequent arrest of the victim on an outstanding warrant.
The incident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. on August 2, 2026, near the intersection of US Highway 19 North and 49th Street North. According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, 28-year-old Victor Lambert boarded a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) bus where 41-year-old Earltwan Grainger was riding. The two men had been involved in an ongoing argument that continued after Lambert got on board.
As the conflict escalated, Lambert brandished a gun. Grainger stepped in to fight for control of the weapon, causing the firearm to go off inside the vehicle. Police confirmed the bullet did not hit anyone on board.
The fight continued until the bus pulled over onto the shoulder of US Highway 19 North. Lambert exited the bus, threatened Grainger with the firearm multiple times, and ran from the scene toward Mayors Park at Freedom Lake.
Pinellas Park police officers, supported by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, tracked Lambert into the park and took him into custody without further incident.
Lambert was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with aggravated assault and improper exhibition of a firearm.
Grainger suffered minor physical injuries during the struggle and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Following his medical release, officers arrested Grainger on an active outstanding warrant.
In a statement released by Lieutenant John Shea, investigators emphasized that the altercation was an isolated event resulting from a personal dispute between the two men, with no broader threat to the public. Police also acknowledged the assistance of the PSTA during the investigation.
