The race to succeed Ron DeSantis is rapidly coalescing around a single name. Congressman Byron Donalds has spent the early months of 2026 methodically locking down the Florida political establishment, building a massive coalition that stretches from the halls of the state capitol to the offices of local law enforcement across the peninsula.
The scale of institutional support for the Naples Republican has reached a tipping point. Currently, Donalds has secured the backing of 75% of the Republican caucus in the Florida House of Representatives and 17 members of the state’s Congressional delegation.
This local momentum is bolstered by a wave of recent endorsements from state legislators like Representatives Tom Fabricio, JJ Grow, and Linda Chaney.
“Communities like mine can trust Byron Donalds will be their voice,” Representative Chaney said, highlighting a sentiment echoed by many in the statehouse who view Donalds as a steady hand for Florida’s future.

Perhaps most notably, the “law and order” wing of the state has moved decisively into Donalds’ camp. A majority of Florida’s sheriffs have now formally endorsed his candidacy.
Sumter County Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Breeden, one of the latest to join the fold, cited the Congressman’s commitment to providing officers with the resources and backing necessary to maintain state safety.
This statewide consolidation is fueled by a record-shattering financial performance. Donalds posted a $22.2 million fundraising haul for the first quarter of 2026, marking the largest Q1 ever for a non-incumbent in Florida history.
With a total “war chest” exceeding $67 million, the campaign has the resources to blanket every media market in the state.
The campaign’s messaging, led by Chief Strategist Ryan Smith, has focused on a platform of regulatory reform, insurance overhaul, and tackling the state’s rising cost of living. Donalds has specifically targeted the “hidden costs” of growth, proposing a streamlined permitting process for housing and support for the elimination of homestead property taxes.
While the institutional support is high, the data suggests the voters are already there. According to the latest Emerson College poll, Donalds is turning the primary into a one-man show.
He currently sits at 46% support among Florida Republicans, while his three closest potential rivals are stalled in a statistical tie at 4%, 4%, and 3% respectively.

The polling also indicates that Donalds’ appeal extends into the general election. The Emerson data shows Donalds leading Democrat David Jolly by five points and holding a nine-point lead over Jerry Demings.
Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, noted that Donalds is the “clear favorite” to lead the party into November, particularly with voters over age 60, where he commands a 54% majority.
