Federal authorities arrested a California parole violator on Thursday afternoon after tracking him to a commercial area in Las Vegas, where he was allegedly found with a handgun and drugs.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Nevada Violent Offender Task Force apprehended 23-year-old Dylan Collins at approximately 4:45 p.m. in the 4500 block of West Charleston Boulevard. According to law enforcement officials, Collins was carrying a handgun, an extended magazine, and unspecified illegal drugs at the time of his arrest.
Collins was wanted by the Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino, for a parole violation stemming from an underlying conviction for possession of a firearm. Authorities identified Collins as a member of the IE Projects criminal street gang in California.
The arrest followed a multi-agency investigation that began when the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation requested help from the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Fugitive Task Force. Investigators eventually gathered information placing Collins in the Las Vegas valley, prompting California officials to ask the Nevada task force to assist in finding him.
Following his arrest on West Charleston Boulevard, Collins was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He remains held there while awaiting local charges related to the items found during his arrest, as well as extradition proceedings back to California.
“This arrest took both a firearm and a serious threat out of the community,” U.S. Marshal Gary Schofield said in a statement. “Strong partnerships make arrests like this possible.”
The Nevada Violent Offender Task Force is a collaborative regional unit that includes personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and more than two dozen other state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies across Nevada.
Authorities stated that inquiries regarding the original California charges should be directed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, while questions about the new local charges should be referred to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
