California Gov. Newsom Signs Bill Banning Gas-Powered Lawn Equipment

California is fighting climate change, one leaf blower at a time.

Fresh of surviving a recall effort, left-wing Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday signed a bill that would ban all gas-powered, off-road engines.

The ban takes effect by Jan. 1, 2024, or as soon as administrative rule-makers determine it’s “feasible.”

According to The Washington Examiner, the law effectively outlaws the sale of things like generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, and even golf carts.

“Under the new law, these machines must be zero-emissions, meaning they will have to be either battery-powered or plug-in,” the Examiner reported.

Andrew Bray, vice president of government relations for the National Association of Landscape Professionals, told the Los Angeles Times that the ban will be brutal for small companies.

“These companies are going to have to completely retrofit their entire workshops to be able to handle this massive change in voltage so they’re going to be charged every day,” Bray said. He suggested a three-person landscaping crew will be forced to carry 30 to 40 fully charged batteries just for a full day’s work.

Brays group also noted that the cost of a zero-emissions riding lawnmower runs double of the $7,000 to $11,000 landscapers pay for a gas-driven model.

No word on where California expects to find the juice to power all those electric blowers, pressure washers, and chainsaws, if there are no new nuclear power plants and fossil fuels are eradicated, as liberals desire, which is evident by another Newsom measure.

Last month, Newsom signed an executive order banning the sales of non-electric cars after 2035.

“What we’re doing here in California is unprecedented in both nature and scale,” the Democratic governor said in a statement. “We will come back from this pandemic stronger than ever before.”
