California Rep. Nancy Pelosi Meets Her Match When Trying To Pronounce Basic Word

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi twice failed to pronounce the word “amnesty” while attacking the Supreme Court for its presidential immunity ruling during an interview posted to YouTube on Friday.

The Supreme Court ruled on President Donald Trump’s immunity appeal on July 1, 2024, finding that presidents have immunity from criminal prosecution for “official acts” taken in office. Pelosi suggested during the Spectrum News interview that the Supreme Court’s ruling indicated it lacked “decency,” then struggled to articulate her thoughts.

“I thought there might be some decency in the Supreme Court. For this Supreme Court to give total amnity, uh, uh, uh, just amnity, to this president — that whatever he did, it was okay — is so contrary to the fundamentals of our country … all three houses, the president, the Republicans in Congress and the Supreme Court — a disgrace,” Pelosi said. “Uh, uh, not living up to the oath of office that we take to protect and defend the Constitution, disloyal to the … vision of our Founders.”

The former speaker ultimately did pronounce the word correctly a bit later in the interview.

Pelosi, who announced she would not seek reelection on Nov. 6, is 85 years old and has served her San Francisco district since 1987. She asserted on Wednesday that she did not join Congress for financial reasons, but her net worth surged by at least 2,292% throughout her 37 years in Congress.

She touted that she was the highest-paid congressperson while speaker during a forum at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.

“At the time, I was the highest paid person on Capitol Hill,” Pelosi said. “As a woman, that was a big deal. Not that I was there for the money.”

Trump also singled out Pelosi during his State of the Union address on Tuesday while pushing Congress to pass the “Stop Insider Trading Act.”

“Let’s also ensure that members of Congress cannot corruptly profit from using insider information,” the president said. “They stood up for that. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. Did Nancy Pelosi stand up — if she’s here? Doubt it.”
