CLEARWATER, Fla. — One of Clearwater’s most recognizable historic landmarks is opening its doors to the public next month as city officials look for community ideas on what to do with the property.
The City of Clearwater has scheduled an open house event called “Night at the North Ward” for July 30, running from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the school building located at 900 N. Fort Harrison Ave.
The event is aimed at local residents, community members, developers, investors, and historic preservation advocates. According to city officials, the goal is to let people explore the landmark while gathering practical ideas for its eventual redevelopment and adaptive reuse. The city wants to find a long-term use for the property that keeps its historic character intact while ensuring it remains a useful community asset.
The event layout begins with arrivals at 5:30 p.m. At 5:45 p.m., Clearwater Mayor Bruce Rector and City Manager Jennifer Poirrier will deliver welcome remarks. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can walk through the school on self-guided tours. The evening will also include music, refreshments, and open community conversation.
The city has partnered with the Clearwater Historical Society to display historic memorabilia, old photographs, and artifacts showing the school’s past and its connection to the local community. CGS Energy is serving as the official sponsor for the event.
People are also being asked to share their own photos, stories, and personal memories of the school online at MyClearwater.com/NorthWardIdeas. Some of these submissions might be selected and displayed during the open house to help highlight the school’s legacy.
Those who want to attend can register online at MyClearwater.com/NightAtNorthWard. The city noted that onsite parking is limited, but overflow parking will be available at the Seminole Boat Ramp at 198 Seminole St. The city’s announcement also explicitly states that the historic North Ward School building is not currently ADA accessible.
