A 31-year-old suspect is in custody in Texas following a multi-state manhunt connected to the fatal shooting of a woman outside a fitness center in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville last weekend.
Randy Campbell was arrested in Dallas earlier this week by the Dallas Police Department. He is accused of killing 24-year-old Cherrish Nunley in Florida.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began Saturday night when deputies responded to reports of a shooting on Sunbeam Road. Upon arriving at the parking lot of a local gym, first responders discovered Nunley. She had succumbed to her injuries before the deputies arrived on the scene.
The Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently ruled the manner of death a homicide.
According to investigators, detectives quickly identified Campbell as the suspect and worked with the State Attorney’s Office to secure an arrest warrant. The U.S. Marshals Task Force assisted in tracking Campbell’s movements to Dallas.

Campbell is currently being held in Texas and is awaiting extradition back to Jacksonville to face charges.
Authorities also addressed recent public concerns regarding a series of violent crimes in the area. While this case fueled online rumors suggesting a serial killer was on the loose in Jacksonville, law enforcement officials clarified that this incident is isolated.
Campbell is not considered a suspect in other recent homicides, and detectives are continuing to investigate those separate cases independently.
“Our hearts go out to Nunley’s family and friends,” the department said in a statement, noting they intend to work closely with prosecutors to ensure due process is served.
