POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A trip to a Davenport shopping plaza turned into a trip to jail for a Hillsborough County man accused of pulling a double-dipping shoplifting scheme involving trading cards.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a retail theft call at the Target store located in the Posner Park shopping plaza at approximately 5:12 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Upon arriving at the scene, store security personnel quickly directed deputies toward the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Donavan Jakob Halsnik of Lutz.
Loss prevention staff reported that Halsnik originally arrived at the store around 4:30 p.m. Once inside, he allegedly began placing Magic: The Gathering trading cards into a Target shopping bag before exiting the building without paying. Security stated that Halsnik re-entered the store shortly thereafter and began gathering additional Magic: The Gathering cards.
In total, the Sheriff’s Office reported that Halsnik stole $425.93 worth of the trading cards.
Deputies located the stolen merchandise inside Halsnik’s car, gathered the items, and returned them to the store.
Halsnik was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. He has been charged with two counts of retail petit theft (a second-degree misdemeanor) and was issued a formal trespass warning banning him from the Target property.
