Democratic firebrand James Carville has laid out a scorched-earth vision for a potential Democratic-led Congress in 2026, promising a relentless campaign to seize the Trump family’s wealth through legal maneuvers.
In a social media video released earlier this week, Carville signaled that the party intends to use the power of the federal government to aggressively pursue the President’s assets and his relatives.
“People are going to be on to you and when the Democrats get back in office in January, they’re going right after the corruption,” Carville said. He described a strategy involving “clawback” proceedings to strip the family of their holdings. “We’re gonna find out all the money that has gone the wrong way and we’re gonna have a legal proceeding… We’re going to get to go out, get the money, give it back to the people of the United States.”
This promised escalation follows a pattern of legal efforts led by New York Attorney General Letitia James. After making an explicit campaign promise in 2018 to investigate the Trump family, James filed a 2022 lawsuit alleging the President inflated the value of his real estate to secure bank loans.
That litigation culminated in a February 2024 ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron, who ordered the payment of $354 million, a figure that surged past $450 million with added penalties.
The financial basis of these cases has faced significant pushback from the industry. While the New York ruling relied on lower valuations for the President’s Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, independent real estate experts have suggested the property is worth upwards of $250 million, far exceeding the figures cited by the court. Carville’s rhetoric also took a personal turn, as he insisted that the next wave of investigations must target the President’s children and their spouses.
In a March 31 YouTube video, Carville used blunt language to describe the impending scrutiny he hopes to see.
“They’re going to start going after you. Then they’re going to start figuring out where all the money stolen is. Then they’re going to go after your stupid jackass kids and their spouses… and they’re going to investigate the shit out of you,” he stated.
The strategist’s comments suggest that the Democratic platform for the 2026 midterms may rely heavily on expanding the legal probes that have been a staple of the political landscape since the 2016 election.
Carville has previously predicted that this level of personal and financial pressure would eventually force the President to “cut a deal” to protect his family.
