Caught On Camera: Dog Dies After Brutal Attack As Charges Loom For Tampa Woman

TAMPA, Fla. – A 33-year-old woman is facing the legal fallout of a violent encounter captured on surveillance video after the dog she allegedly assaulted passed away from its injuries.

The incident began on the night of April 30, 2026, when cameras from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center caught Imania Davis in a residential area.

According to investigators, the footage shows Davis throwing a dog onto the asphalt twice with significant force. The recording further documented her kicking the animal while it was on the ground.

Deputies arrived on the scene shortly after 8:20 p.m. and rushed the dog to a local veterinarian for emergency treatment. Medical staff confirmed the dog suffered a broken leg and other internal trauma.

While the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and veterinary teams worked to stabilize the animal over the following days, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the dog has since died.

Davis was originally taken into custody on six counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. With the dog’s death, detectives are now meeting with the State Attorney’s Office to determine if those charges will be upgraded or if additional counts will be filed.

Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed the weight of the loss on the local community following the dog’s passing.

“This is a deeply upsetting case that has impacted our entire community,” Chronister said. “What this innocent animal endured was cruel, violent, and unacceptable. I am also grateful to everyone at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and the veterinary staff who did everything they could to care for this dog and give him a chance to recover.”

The investigation remains open as the Public Affairs Office waits for final autopsy results and legal reviews. Davis remains in the judicial system pending her next court appearance.
