Darqareion Mills, 29, is in custody in Brownsville, Tennessee, after a multi-state search led by the U.S. Marshals Service. Mills was wanted on a second-degree murder charge involving a fatal hit-and-run that took place in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on March 25, 2026.
The incident occurred in the Vine neighborhood on South Westnedge Avenue near Axel Street.
According to WWMT, witnesses reported seeing two cars speeding before one struck 51-year-old Mark McBride. Investigators later recovered the vehicle involved in Galesburg, but the driver had fled the scene.
McBride, a father of two and a grandfather who worked for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, was described by his brother as a “special soul” and a lifelong best friend.

U.S. Marshals tracked Mills to a residence in Brownsville, located about 60 miles northeast of Memphis. Upon searching the home, law enforcement found Mills hiding in an attic crawl space.
Despite orders to surrender, Mills remained in the overhead area until the ceiling structure gave way. He fell through the drywall and into the living space below, where he was immediately apprehended by officers.
Mills is being held at a regional facility pending extradition to Michigan. No injuries to law enforcement were reported during the arrest.
