U.S. Central Command confirmed Saturday that American forces conducted a series of ten military strikes in Syria earlier this month, zeroing in on more than 30 Islamic State positions. The operations, which took place between Feb. 3 and Feb. 12, targeted specific ISIS infrastructure and weapons storage sites as part of a sustained campaign to dismantle the group’s remaining networks.

These recent maneuvers fall under “Operation Hawkeye Strike,” a military response initiated after a deadly December ambush near Palmyra.

That attack claimed the lives of Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, and an interpreter. Following the incident, President Trump pledged a forceful response, leading to an initial wave of strikes in late December that hit over 70 targets.

The pressure on the militant group has remained steady into the new year. In January, U.S. forces successfully neutralized Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, an operative linked to Al-Qaeda who officials believe was directly connected to the gunman involved in the December ambush.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, noted at the time that the operation signaled a clear message that there is no safe haven for those who target American personnel.

According to the latest data released by CENTCOM, the ongoing operation has resulted in the death or capture of more than 50 ISIS fighters and the destruction of over 100 infrastructure targets.

The military framing of these events emphasizes a strategy of “relentless pressure” to prevent the group from regrouping or launching further attacks in the region.
