Central Florida Man Faces Life Behind Bars After Online Sting

An Oviedo man is now facing a minimum of ten years and potentially the rest of his life in a federal prison cell following a conviction in Orlando this week. On Tuesday, a federal jury found 32-year-old Rusbel Montoya Mandujano guilty of attempting to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.

The decision comes after a trial that detailed a swift law enforcement operation aimed at stopping online predators.

The case against Montoya Mandujano began on June 25, 2025, when he started messaging someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl. According to court testimony and evidence, those digital conversations quickly turned graphic.

However, the “girl” on the other end of the screen didn’t exist; the account was actually a front for a team of undercover detectives from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

Prosecutors showed that even after learning the supposed age of the child, Montoya Mandujano continued to discuss specific sexual acts he intended to perform. He eventually coordinated a time and place to meet the girl in person to carry out those plans.

When he pulled up to the meeting spot on June 26, 2025—just one day after the initial contact—he was met by law enforcement officers rather than a teenager.

United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the verdict following the trial’s conclusion. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Testerman, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Andrejko handling the asset forfeiture side of the case.

This successful prosecution falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood. Launched by the Department of Justice in 2006, the initiative is designed to pool federal, state, and local resources to track down and prosecute those who exploit children online. Montoya Mandujano is currently being held as he awaits his sentencing hearing, which a judge has scheduled for August 25, 2026.
