A historic neighborhood festival turned into a scene of panic Saturday afternoon when gunfire erupted nearby, leaving multiple people wounded and triggering an active manhunt in Toledo, Ohio.
Toledo police officers rushed to the area surrounding the Old West End Festival at approximately 5:30 p.m. following reports of a person shot. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered a chaotic situation with multiple shooting victims scattered near the event perimeter, according to an official statement released by the police department.
Ambulances and emergency vehicles quickly flooded the neighborhood to transport “many victims” to nearby hospitals, police confirmed. Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of people injured or the severity of their conditions.
As night fell, the neighborhood remained a massive crime scene. Toledo police stated that officers are “actively searching for suspects” and are working to determine the exact circumstances and motive behind the shootings. No descriptions of the suspects have been made public, and no arrests have been announced.
The violence broke out during the Old West End Festival, a popular two-day community celebration held annually in Toledo’s historic district. The weekend event typically draws large crowds for live music, food vendors, local shopping, and tours of the neighborhood’s historic homes.
The Toledo Police Department did not immediately respond to emails and phone messages Saturday evening seeking updates on the conditions of the victims or the status of the investigation.
