Andrew Kolvet, Kirk’s long-time executive producer, appeared on Fox News to condemn Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent remarks, accusing her of adding “great pain” to a tragedy.
In an interview on Fox’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Andrew Kolvet, the executive producer for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, responded directly to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) recent criticism of his late friend. Ocasio-Cortez was one of 58 Democrats who voted against a resolution to honor Kirk’s life, a measure that ultimately passed but sparked significant controversy.
The congresswoman used her time on the House floor to call Kirk “uneducated” and “ignorant,” citing his past remarks. Related: NY Rep. AOC Chews Up Nearly 3 Minutes On House Floor Trashing Charlie Kirk’s Memory
Kolvet expressed his profound disappointment in Ocasio-Cortez’s comments, stating, “The fact that she would put her words in public like that is disappointing, and I hope that she receives all of the appropriate backlash for that.”
He drew a parallel to the public condemnation faced by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who was recently suspended by ABC for his monologue about Kirk’s alleged assassin.
During her speech, Ocasio-Cortez argued that a resolution honoring Kirk would “bring great pain” to Americans who have faced historical injustices like segregation and Jim Crow. “His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans,” she stated.
Since Kirk’s assassination, several media figures and public personalities have faced professional consequences for their responses. The New York Times issued a correction for misquoting Kirk, and both a Washington Post columnist and an MSNBC political analyst have been fired for spreading false claims about his beliefs and the nature of the attack.
“My friend that I worked with for eight years was not only a good and decent and true person, he was a loving father. He was a loving husband,” Kolvet said, his voice filled with emotion. “The fact that we can’t get unanimity within our own U.S. Congress to condemn the assassination of my friend, and he’s an American hero, an American icon, he belongs to history now.”
