A Lee County man faces multiple felony charges, including murder, after firefighters discovered a woman’s body inside a burning home following two separate emergency calls to the same address.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that emergency medical services initially responded to a residence on Ranchette Road after 23-year-old George Beemer called 911 requesting help for chest pain. Paramedics evaluated Beemer at the scene and transported him to an area hospital.
Shortly after EMS personnel departed, a second 911 call alerted authorities to a fire at the same Ranchette Road home. Firefighters arriving at the scene entered the structure to extinguish the blaze and discovered the body of a severely burned woman inside.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation alongside the Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations, which opened a parallel probe to establish the origin and cause of the fire.
According to detectives, investigators developed probable cause determining that Beemer shot the woman prior to setting the house on fire. Deputies subsequently arrested Beemer and charged him with second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and abuse of a dead body.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased woman, nor have they disclosed the specific events leading up to the shooting or the exact location where the fire started.
“Major crimes detectives, crime scene investigators, and our partners with the fire service immediately recognized that something wasn’t right. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and relentless investigative work ensured a swift arrest was made,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement. “My prayers remain with the victim and loved ones as they begin to process this unimaginable tragedy. They deserve answers and we will continue working tirelessly to provide them.”
“This is one of the most horrific acts of violence imaginable,” Marceno added. “The cruelty in this case is beyond comprehension, and I am incredibly proud of the swift coordinated response by our deputies, fire, and EMS personnel, and major crimes detectives, whose relentless work uncovered the truth, and justice began without delay.”
The investigation remains active as the Lee County Sheriff’s Office coordinates with the Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office.
