China announced sanctions on seven U.S. military companies and their senior executives on Thursday, in response to continued U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. The sanctions, which include asset freezes and prohibitions on transactions with Chinese entities, are the latest escalation in tensions between the two countries over Taiwan.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the U.S. for its “substantial military assistance and arms sale to China’s Taiwan region,” as well as for provisions in the “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025” that China views as interfering in its internal affairs.

The statement accused the U.S. of violating the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués, which form the foundation of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
The targeted companies include Insitu, Inc., Hudson Technologies Co., Saronic Technologies, Inc., Raytheon Canada, Raytheon Australia, Aerkomm Inc., and Oceaneering International, Inc. The sanctions also extend to relevant senior executives at these companies.
“Their movable and immovable properties, and other kinds of assets within China shall be frozen,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated. “All organizations and individuals within China shall be prohibited from engaging in transaction, cooperation and other activities with them.”

These countermeasures, effective immediately, are being imposed under China’s Law on Countering Foreign Sanctions.
This move by China is likely to further strain relations with the U.S., which has repeatedly stated its commitment to supporting Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities. The U.S. maintains that arms sales to Taiwan are consistent with its “one China” policy and are necessary to maintain peace and stability in the region.
