For the first time, the United States has reportedly launched a direct attack on Venezuelan soil. According to sources speaking with CNN, the CIA conducted a drone strike on a coastal port facility earlier this month, a move that analysts warn signals a dramatic and volatile new phase in Washington’s pressure campaign against President Nicolás Maduro.
While specific details regarding damage or casualties at the port remain scarce, the strike represents a significant crossing of the Rubicon for the Trump administration.
Until now, American efforts to force Maduro to step down have primarily relied on crushing economic sanctions, diplomatic isolation, and covert political maneuvering. A kinetic strike inside Venezuela’s borders suggests the White House is now willing to risk open conflict to force a leadership change in Caracas.

The attack comes amid a broader, increasingly lethal American military posture in the hemisphere. In a separate incident on Monday, the U.S. military targeted a suspected drug boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
That strike left two people dead, adding to the body count in the administration’s aggressive anti-narcotics initiative.
Data indicates that at least 107 people have now been killed in strikes against vessels suspected of trafficking drugs.
While the administration maintains these high-tempo operations are essential to curbing the flow of narcotics into the U.S., the frequency of the engagements paints a picture of a conflict that is rapidly intensifying on multiple fronts—from the Venezuelan coastline to the open waters of the Pacific.
