A Florida woman is facing a felony battery charge after an early morning physical altercation with her boyfriend on Sunday.
Maya Taylor, 35, was arrested by Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies after they responded to a distress call at a home located at 75 SW 75th St. around 2:45 a.m.
Accordign to WCJB, deputies found the male victim “shaking and out of breath,” with visible injuries to his neck, arms, and back. According to the arrest report, the victim told authorities that the argument began over Taylor’s alcohol use at a separate location.
The report details that the situation escalated after the couple returned home, when Taylor allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and threatened to harm herself. After the victim managed to take the scissors away, Taylor is accused of becoming physically aggressive, allegedly scratching, punching, and biting the victim’s genitals.
Due to a prior offense, the current charge has been elevated to a felony battery, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Taylor and the victim have reportedly been in a relationship for approximately seven years and have a child together.
Taylor is currently being held at the Alachua County Jail.
