Citrus County Man Arrested In Thwarted Florida Keys Burglary

Overnight Incident Leads to Charges for Theft, Criminal Mischief

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 52-year-old Citrus County man was arrested early Sunday morning after deputies responded to a trespassing call and discovered him attempting to break into an Islamorada home.

Del Cordova Lopez faces charges of attempted burglary, theft, and criminal mischief following the incident in the 74000 block of the Overseas Highway.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence at approximately 1 a.m. Upon arrival, they observed Lopez on the property, holding rocks.

Security video footage from the home reportedly showed Lopez trying to steal a package from the property before attempting to force his way into the residence using rocks. The attempted break-in resulted in approximately $600 in damage to the front door.

Lopez was taken into custody and transported to jail.
