CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – After more than 27 years of dedicated service, Captain John Novy of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has officially retired, marking the end of an extraordinary law enforcement career.

Captain Novy, whose tenure began in October 1997, has left an indelible legacy characterized by leadership, commitment, and excellence across various divisions of the agency.

A Remarkable Journey

Captain Novy’s career at CCSO started as a Patrol Deputy, and his dedication quickly propelled him to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in 2002. His investigative acumen earned him a promotion to Officer in Charge of SIU in 2004. Over the years, Novy excelled in several roles, reflecting his adaptability and commitment to public safety.

In 2012, he became Sergeant of the Tactical Impact Unit, earning multiple commendations and citations for his exceptional work. By 2015, Novy had risen to the rank of Patrol Lieutenant, demonstrating his ability to lead teams under challenging circumstances. His promotion to Patrol Captain in 2019 allowed him to oversee frontline responders and ensure operational readiness.

In October 2022, Novy transitioned to Captain over the Criminal Investigations Division, where he managed some of CCSO’s most complex and sensitive cases. Throughout his tenure, he consistently exemplified strong leadership and dedication, guiding his teams through impactful operations that made a difference in the community.

Service Beyond the Call of Duty

In addition to his leadership roles, Captain Novy served with distinction on CCSO’s SWAT team from 2001 to 2017, taking on roles as a sniper and Team Leader. His tactical expertise and dedication to critical operations showcased his commitment to protecting Citrus County residents.

“Captain Novy’s career is a testament to his hard work, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Citrus County,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “His contributions have left a lasting legacy, and he will be deeply missed by his CCSO family. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

Reflecting on his career, Novy expressed gratitude for his time in law enforcement and the unique connection he felt with the Citrus County community.

“It’s been an honor serving in Citrus County over the past two decades,” said Captain Novy. “Citrus County is a special place to be a law enforcement officer as the community makes us all feel appreciated.
