CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers in Citrus County should prepare for some extra time behind the wheel starting this Sunday, as two major roadways are slated for a series of lane closures.

Local commuters and late-night travelers will feel the brunt of the work on US 19 and State Road 44, where crews are scheduled to perform maintenance and upgrades through most of the week.

The most significant impact is expected along US 19 between South Jump Court and West Fort Island Trail. This stretch will see a double dose of delays with both daytime and nighttime work scheduled.

Starting Sunday, February 15, periodic night lane closures will run from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Thursday. If you’re heading out during the day, the same area will experience periodic daytime closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Monday, February 16, and wrapping up on Friday, February 20.

Meanwhile, those traveling through Inverness will want to keep an eye on State Road 44 (Main Street).

Work is planned for the section between Pleasant Grove Road and Montgomery Avenue. To minimize impact on local businesses and reduce heavy daytime traffic, these closures are strictly limited to overnight hours. Expect lane restrictions from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Sunday night and continuing through Thursday morning, February 19.

Law enforcement and transportation officials recommend that motorists stay alert, slow down in work zones, and consider using navigation apps to check for real-time backups before heading out the door.
