TAMPA, Fla. – In celebration of National Bike Month, the City of Tampa is co-sponsoring an Open Streets event hosted by onbikes that will close Bayshore Blvd to vehicular traffic from Swann Ave to Bay to Bay Blvd on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 3 to 7 pm, and open the street to car-free activities for everyone in the City to enjoy.
The event, called BIKESTOCK, is a Woodstock-inspired free community bike ride followed by a ticketed VIP Party that will help raise funds to STOCK bicycles and helmets for kids and families in need.
Free to the public, this new “open streets” concept will open Bayshore Blvd to people for an afternoon of family-friendly activities and bike riding along the water featuring music, local vendors and artists. Turning Bayshore Blvd.
into our playground, riders are encouraged to dress in their hippie best and safely enjoy the beauty of Tampa and the company of family, friends and other riders.
“The City of Tampa is proud to co-sponsor this Open Streets event with onbikes that will transform Bayshore Blvd into a community playground for an afternoon,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “Events like this support the City’s Vision Zero mission of creating a safe road network that encourages healthy, active ways of moving around the city.”
Following the Open Streets event, the community is invited to a ticketed VIP event at the Tampa Garden Club from 6 to 10 pm to keep the Woodstock-inspired party going. This VIP event will include food, drinks, live entertainment, and local artists. Proceeds from the ticketed event will go towards purchasing bicycles and helmets for local children in need.
