Clash At The Top? Homan Defends ‘One Team’ Strategy Amid ICE Conduct Probe

The Trump administration’s immigration strategy faced intense scrutiny Sunday as Border Czar Tom Homan responded to reports of internal friction and growing questions regarding officer conduct during recent enforcement surges.

Appearing on “Face the Nation,” Homan pushed back against claims of a fractured leadership while addressing ongoing investigations into a series of controversial shootings involving federal agents.

The interview comes at a critical juncture for the Department of Homeland Security. In Minneapolis, two ICE agents were recently placed on administrative leave after video evidence appeared to contradict their sworn testimony regarding a shooting.

This follows previous DHS claims that the agents were “ambushed,” an account that is now being officially questioned.

When asked if these incidents, along with a similar case in Chicago where evidence disputed claims of an agent’s vehicle being rammed, have undermined public trust, Homan pointed to internal oversight.

“My first press conference in Minnesota, I said I was bringing additional internal affairs agents in, just to make sure officers in the field was doing the right thing,” Homan said. He confirmed that the FBI is also involved in the inquiries. “As the ICE Director said on Friday, people will be held accountable and they’ll be fully investigated, and however that investigation comes out, then disciplinary action or prosecutions will occur.”

Beyond the conduct of field agents, the discussion turned to the reported rift within the administration’s upper echelons. A recent Wall Street Journal report alleged that Homan rarely speaks with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem or her advisor, Corey Lewandowski, and has expressed frustration with their leadership to the White House.

Homan dismissed the report as an attempt to “divide this administration,” though he did not deny that professional disagreements occur. “Look, it’s one team, one fight. I’m not playing in that media,” Homan told CBS. “Do me and Secretary Noem agree on everything? No. That’s why we have discussions.”

He described a process where various agency heads, including CBP lead Rodney Scott, bring decades of experience to the table to hash out strategy. Homan characterized these not as “out of control” arguments, but as a “discussion of different ideas” regarding the best path forward for the mission.

Despite the questions regarding internal transparency and leadership dynamics, Homan remained focused on the administration’s stated metrics of success. “The bottom line is, we have the most secure border in history in this nation,” Homan asserted, citing record numbers of criminal alien arrests. “The results speak for themselves.”
