Clay Fuller Cruises To Victory In Georgia Special Election To Secure MTG’s Former Seat

Republican Clay Fuller has won the special election to fill the congressional seat vacated by Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation earlier this year.

The victory keeps the Northwest Georgia district firmly in Republican hands following a brief vacancy that drew national attention to the deep-red stronghold. Fuller, a career prosecutor, defeated Democratic challenger Shawn Harris, a retired brigadier general, in a runoff that followed a crowded all-party primary held in March.

While the race featured two candidates with extensive military and legal backgrounds, the math heavily favored the GOP from the start. During the initial round of voting, Republican candidates collectively pulled in roughly 60% of the total vote.

Fuller eventually emerged as the frontrunner after securing a high-profile endorsement from President Donald Trump during the primary stage, which helped him consolidate the conservative base.

Throughout the campaign, Harris leaned on his military service to appeal to moderate and independent voters, but the district’s historical voting patterns proved too high a hurdle to clear. The seat became open after Greene stepped down from her position several months ago, triggering the special election cycle.

Fuller’s move to Washington will restore the GOP’s numbers in the House as the party continues to navigate a slim majority. Election officials confirmed that the transition will begin immediately to ensure the district has representation for the remainder of the current legislative session.

Harris has not yet released a formal statement regarding the projection, though Fuller’s team began celebrating the win shortly after the final tallies from the district’s major counties were reported.
