CLEARWATER, Fla. – A trip down Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard took a chaotic turn Monday when a car careened off the road and slammed directly into a local landmark.
Around 5 p.m., Clearwater police and fire crews rushed to the 2900 block after a westbound Nissan Maxima lost control, cut across three lanes of oncoming traffic, and crashed into the front of Robert’s Christmas Wonderland.
Miraculously, the store was spared any tragedy. Despite the sudden impact, nobody inside the building was hurt.
The driver, a 69-year-old man, was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital to be checked out for minor injuries, though authorities noted the trip was mostly a precaution.
While the dust settles at the holiday shop, investigators are still working to figure out exactly what caused the driver to lose his grip on the wheel.
