CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater residents have a dedicated opportunity this weekend to securely dispose of sensitive documents and unwanted medications. The Clearwater Police Department, in collaboration with the city’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division, will host a combined Shred-a-Thon and Medicine Take-Back event on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event, exclusively for Clearwater residents, will be held in the parking lot near Whole Foods at Countryside Mall, 27001 U.S. Highway 19 N., closest to the intersection of U.S. 19 and Countryside Boulevard.

The Shred-a-Thon component invites residents to bring documents containing personal or sensitive information for on-site, secure disposal. A certified company will handle the shredding to ensure confidentiality and proper destruction. There is a limit of 10 boxes per vehicle.

Simultaneously, the Clearwater Police Department will operate a Medicine Take-Back station as part of the nationwide Operation Medicine Cabinet initiative, which takes place twice annually. Residents are strongly encouraged to bring any unwanted, expired, or unused prescription medications for proper, safe disposal. Authorities stress that flushing medication or simply tossing it in the trash poses risks to both the environment and public safety.

Important details for attendees:

  • This event is strictly for Clearwater residents only; businesses will not be permitted to participate.
  • The shredding limit is 10 boxes per vehicle.
  • Hazardous materials and needles will not be accepted at the event.

The initiative offers a valuable service to the community, helping residents prevent identity theft through secure document shredding while promoting public health and environmental safety through the responsible disposal of pharmaceuticals.
