Clearwater Is Handing Out Free Trees Next Saturday To Green Up Your Yard

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater residents looking to add some shade to their property can head over to the Clearwater Public Services Complex next Saturday, April 25. In a nod to Arbor Day and Earth Month, the city is hosting its annual tree giveaway from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1650 N. Arcturas Ave.

The event is strictly first-come, first-served, and you’ll want to get there early if you have your heart set on a specific type. Each household is eligible for two Florida-native trees.

If you are looking for fruit trees, keep in mind they are limited to just one per household because they tend to be the first to disappear.

City staff and local tree experts will be stationed at the complex to help people pick the right spot in their yard and explain how to actually keep the trees alive once they’re in the ground.

The goal of the program is to expand the city’s urban canopy, which helps with everything from cooling down neighborhoods to managing stormwater runoff.

“Trees do more than beautify our neighborhoods. They are vital to our environment and our health,” said Ali Ismailoski, the city’s right-of-way division manager. “This Arbor Day, we are encouraging residents to take part in growing a greener Clearwater. Planting native trees helps cool our city, improve air quality and create lasting benefits for future generations.”

Because these are native species, they are specifically chosen for their ability to thrive in the local climate while supporting Florida’s birds and pollinators.
