CLEARWATER, Fla. – A Thursday afternoon in Pinellas County took a horrific turn after a man allegedly called a friend to confess he had just murdered his mother.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at 29081 US Highway 19 North in unincorporated Clearwater around 2:58 p.m.
According to investigators, the gruesome discovery followed a 911 call from an acquaintance of the suspect. The caller reported that 24-year-old Daniel Sanchez had reached out to him and stated plainly that he had killed his mother.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies entered a bedroom where they found 65-year-old Yolanda Sanchez. She had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

Detectives with the Robbery & Homicide Unit soon learned that the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute. Investigators say a verbal altercation broke out between Daniel and Yolanda earlier that day.
The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Daniel allegedly used a knife to attack his mother. Authorities stated that Daniel admitted to stabbing her repeatedly until she was dead.
Daniel Sanchez was taken into custody and has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Friday evening.
Sheriff’s officials confirmed that the next of kin have been notified. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the argument remains ongoing.
