Clearwater Police Arrest 16-Year-Old For Bringing Gun To School

A Florida House Democrat on Wednesday launched a longshot effort to call a special legislative session to address gun-related issues after recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, N.Y.

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Police school resource officers arrested a teenager today after he brought a gun to school.

The 16-year-old Countryside High School student was charged with possessing a weapon on school property and possessing a firearm by a person under 18 years of age.

He was taken to the Pinellas County Juvenile Assessment Center.

Officers became aware this morning that the suspect, a junior, had a gun in his backpack after another student alerted them to it. Officers said he did not threaten anyone with the weapon or plan any act of violence.

The gun was a Glock 48 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

The suspect admitted he had the gun in his backpack and also said he knew it was wrong to have it at school.
