Two people avoided serious injuries after a private plane crashed at Key West International Airport.
The aircraft went down around 2:14 p.m., coming to a stop about 100 yards off the runway. Both people on board survived the crash without any life-threatening injuries.
Right now, it is unclear whether the plane was taking off or landing when the incident occurred.
The crash forced a temporary closure at the airport, but officials reopened the runway by 4 p.m.
Federal aviation authorities and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene to figure out what went wrong. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they are not the lead agency handling the investigation.
