The Tampa Bay Lightning aren’t just winning right now; they are rewriting their own history books while doing it. Powered by another four-point masterclass from Nikita Kucherov and a surprising two-goal night from Gage Goncalves, the Lightning dismantled the Philadelphia Flyers 7-2 on Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The victory marks Tampa Bay’s ninth consecutive win, the longest active streak in the NHL and their best run since the 2019-20 season.

While the team success is the headline, Kucherov’s individual dominance stole the show. The winger tallied two goals and two assists, extending his point streak to nine games. Perhaps more impressively, he became just the third active player to record multiple points in eight consecutive contests, joining Connor McDavid and former teammate Steven Stamkos.

Kucherov wasted no time making his mark, netting two goals in the first period. Those strikes were his 114th and 115th career first-period goals, moving him past Vincent Lecavalier for the second-most in franchise history. He is now on pace for a staggering season total, currently sitting at 65 points (22 goals, 43 assists).

But the offense wasn’t a one-man show. Center Brayden Point played the distributor perfectly, logging a season-high three assists and a plus-4 rating. Gage Goncalves, often a depth contributor, matched his career high with two goals, giving the Flyers’ defense fits all night. Nick Paul scored the eventual game-winner midway through the second period, while Brandon Hagel and Yanni Gourde also found the back of the net.

The offensive outburst marked the first time in franchise history that the Lightning have scored at least seven goals in back-to-back road games. It was also the sixth time this season they’ve put up a six-spot on the road, leading the league in that category.

Between the pipes, Andrei Vasilevskiy was steady when called upon, stopping 29 of 31 shots to secure his seventh consecutive victory. He improved his record to 18-7-2, providing a calm backbone to the frantic offensive pace in front of him.

Philadelphia briefly made it a game in the first period when Garnet Hathaway tied the score at 1-1, but the Lightning’s depth and transition speed quickly overwhelmed the home side. A power-play goal from Owen Tippett in the third period was too little, too late for the Flyers.

The Lightning (27-13-3) will look to push their streak to double digits on Monday night when they face the Flyers again in Philadelphia. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
