In an exchange on CNN’s “The Situation Room” on Wednesday, Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s claim that Republicans redacted the name of Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre—ostensibly to protect President Donald Trump—was swiftly corrected by host Pamela Brown.

The debate centered on a batch of recently released emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, which House Democrats made public. In the emails, Epstein suggested Trump was aware of his conduct and spent time at his home with victims. Crockett used this as an opportunity to suggest the GOP was hiding Giuffre’s name, given her past association with Epstein.

However, Brown quickly brought up a crucial detail: Giuffre, who tragically died by suicide in April, had previously stated that Trump committed no wrongdoing.

“Here’s the email right here on your screen,” Brown stated, referencing Giuffre’s past account. “She wrote a book, as you know, and she did not accuse him of any wrongdoing. What do you make of that? And can you confirm that?”

Crockett initially hesitated, stating, “I don’t know. Obviously, it’s redacted who the victim is, so I won’t necessarily take the Republicans’ word on who it is that’s redacted.”

Brown then delivered the decisive clarification: “But the Democrats did that.”

Despite the clarification, Crockett continued to suggest that the Republicans were attempting to protect the President by withholding information. “I don’t think you have somebody trying to hide files around a hoax,” Crockett argued. “We know that there’s something there.”

She further claimed that the current administration was holding back key files. “The only reason that we have these emails is because we were able to get them from the estate, not because the Department of Justice was releasing information… Kash Patel continues to hold back information,” Crockett asserted.

The facts surrounding Virginia Giuffre’s statements complicate the Democrats’ narrative of a Trump cover-up. An unredacted 2011 email confirms that it was Democrats who redacted Giuffre’s name. In that same email, Giuffre is quoted as saying:

“Donald Trump was also a good friend of Jeffrey’s. He didn’t partake in sex with any of us but he flirted with me, He’d laugh and tell Jeffrey, ‘You’ve Got the life.’”

Furthermore, other figures have weighed in on the President’s association with Epstein.

Epstein’s business partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, stated during a July deposition that Trump was a “gentleman in all respects” and denied ever seeing him act inappropriately. Trump himself stated in July that he ended his friendship with Epstein after he “stole” female staffers from his Mar-a-Lago resort.
