Data Shows GOP Registration Gains in Key Swing States
CNN’s senior data reporter, Harry Enten, revealed on Tuesday that Republicans have built their strongest party registration advantage in over two decades across several key swing states. During a segment on “CNN Newsroom,” Enten delivered a stark assessment of the Democratic Party’s brand, comparing it unfavorably to the recent, widely ridiculed Cracker Barrel logo rebrand.
“The Democratic brand right now has about the same appeal with the American voter as the Cracker Barrel rebrand has with American consumers,” Enten said. “Bad, bad, bad. What are you doing? Oh my goodness gracious. What are we talking about here in terms of big party registration changes in the key swing states?”

Enten’s analysis, based on hard data from four pivotal battlegrounds—Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania—shows Republicans enjoying their strongest registration edge since at least 2005. He noted that the GOP is performing better at this point in the political cycle than at any point in the 21st century.
The data shows significant registration gains for the Republican Party compared to the same point in 2017, during the first Trump administration. Arizona has seen a three-point Republican gain, while Nevada has seen a six-point gain. North Carolina and Pennsylvania have each seen an eight-point gain for the GOP.

These registration shifts come as the Democratic Party grapples with sinking approval ratings and attempts to rebrand its image ahead of the midterms. Following heavy defeats in the 2024 election, some Democrats have acknowledged that their messaging has become too academic, sounding more like lectures than persuasive campaign pitches.
The findings from Enten’s analysis are supported by a New York Times review of voter rolls, which found that Democrats have shed approximately 2.1 million registered voters since 2020, while Republicans have gained roughly 2.4 million over the same period.
