Colorado Woman Faces First-Degree Murder Charge In Fatal Stabbing Of Her Mother

The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office has formally filed a First-Degree Murder charge against 37-year-old Sarah Riste for the alleged stabbing death of her mother inside a Westminster home last month.

The charge was filed on Thursday, October 2, following an investigation by the Westminster Police Department into a homicide that occurred on Sunday, September 28.

Police initially responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 3300 block of W 92nd Pl just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased adult female inside the home with “visible signs of trauma.”

Sarah Riste, who was present at the scene along with a child, was identified by detectives as the suspect and subsequently taken into custody on a charge of First-Degree Murder. The child was safely turned over to Child Protective Services.

The victim’s identity and the official cause of death are pending release by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, pending notification of next of kin.
