Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted for a second time by the Department of Justice, with sources indicating the new charges are tied to a controversial social media post featuring the numbers “8647.”
The focus of this latest legal action involves an Instagram post from last year in which Comey shared a photo of seashells arranged to form the numbers “8647.”
While Comey later deleted the post and claimed he saw it as a political message without realizing its potential violent connotations, critics and Trump administration officials argued the numbers were code for “86ing”—or removing—the 47th president.

This is not the first time the Justice Department has sought to prosecute the former director. Last September, federal prosecutors charged Comey with lying to Congress regarding leaks to the media. However, that case fell apart in late 2024.
A federal judge dismissed the charges after ruling that the interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia had been improperly appointed, bypassing the required Senate confirmation process.
Legal activity surrounding the case appears to have gained fresh momentum under acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.
The history between the two men dates back to the 2016 election cycle. Comey led the FBI during its investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia, a probe that created a permanent rift.
