Congress Certifies 2024 Election Results, Declares Trump And Vance Victors

Congress officially certified the results of the 2024 presidential election, confirming Donald Trump as the next president and JD Vance as vice president.

The tallying of the electoral votes concluded with Trump securing 312 votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 226. Harris, who presided over the joint session, formally announced the results, eliciting cheers from Republicans in the chamber.

“The chair declares this joint session dissolved,” Harris stated, marking the end of the constitutional process. She shook hands with several members and exchanged pleasantries before departing.

Vice President-Elect JD Vance’s Reaction: Sitting in the front row, Vance remained composed as the chamber erupted in applause when Ohio’s electoral votes were cast for the Trump-Vance ticket.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ Role: Harris handed certificates to the designated tellers, standing with her hands clasped as the results were read. Her announcement of Trump’s victory prompted a standing ovation from Republican members, while she maintained a composed demeanor.

With the formalities completed, President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance will be inaugurated on January 20, 2025.
